Bigfoot 200

posted Jun 27, 2016, 8:34 PM by Charles Boling
Coming up in August is a huge hike/run.  5 days, 200 miles w/ 50kft of climb through the cascades.  Guess what?  For an event like that, they need radio operators!
Ham participation in this event is being coordinated by Robert, KD7WNV, of the Mike & Key club.

Though the organizers are running it as a commercial entity, from what I can tell the primary motive at this point is still the glory of the run, not profit, and it would be difficult for them to provide the level of service to the runners that they need using commercial operators.  Additionally, this is a great excuse for hams to get out and enjoy some serious field operating.

Below is a link to a flyer that will give you more information, and we will continue discussing it on the air periodically.  Key dates:
  • August 12-16: The actual run
  • July 2,3, 9,10, 16,17: Possible dates for 1-day Field Testing

If you are interested in helping out with the July test and/or the actual event in August, Robert would love to hear from you.  Understandably, not everyone's going to be able to take a week off to spend up there, so volunteer for part of it!   Robert's contact info is on the flyer.
