Washington County EmComm Mash-up Drill

posted Sep 8, 2014, 12:53 PM by Charles Boling

This Saturday, from 9AM to noon, is a comm drill initiated by our friends to the south.

The exercise, which I announced on the air Sunday without much info available, is a bit different from previous ones and not what I thought it was.  It's not a multi-state or even a state-wide inter-communications exercise; rather it's centered on Washington County (Oregon), where nearby church units and individuals are asked to operate simultaneously with ARES/RACES according to their plans, so we can ensure that everyone can play together and that we aren't stomping on each others' channels.  Interference between Washington and Cowlitz counties is not as much of a concern as it is with other Vancouver & Portland area units, so it's not a big deal.

As far as I know, there will be no official operation in Cowlitz County, either by ACS or LDS groups, all of whom have plenty of other activities going on this Saturday.  It is, however, a good chance to listen and see what these folks have going on.  I also recommend that you download the attached sheet, review it, and retain it for future reference.  It's important to be familiar with others' plans both to avoid unwanted interference and to facilitate inter-operation when needed.
